KH Maintenance Training

Today we wanted to share with you all some pictures and experiences from our Kingdom Hall maintenance training that we had this last Saturday.

This was taken halfway through the day... Please don't judge our appearance.

We were a little worried at the beginning of the month because we knew that there was a lot of work to be done and only a small amount of publishers in our hall to get it all done. Imagine our surprise when we heard that not only would a few be coming from off the island to assist but nineteen!

It was great to have the extra hands not only that but we were so happy to be able to meet brothers and sisters from several different congregations.

Our hall was built in 2011 and although it had been kept up there were several things that we needed to work on. One of the things about living in such a harsh environment is that buildings require a LOT of upkeep. Even after one week you can notice the difference in a house.

Because there were several things to do we were split up into four groups.

Landscaping and Plague control. (Interesting they call pest control that here...)

Seating and window screens

Electrical

Structural maintenance

Every group had a lot of work ahead of it and there was plenty of cleaning for all. One of our problems that we had was that it had not been raining for several days before the training and we were extremely low on water which would make cleaning difficult.

Hard at work. Our brothers and sisters did so much.

Before we even started we had an announcement that we wouldn’t be able to flush the toilet in order to conserve water.

One of the brothers went and got buckets of water from the trench so that we could use it to clean the stone and screens. We weren’t about to go near the trench seeing as the day before people had pulled a six foot caiman from the same trench.

Jim is great! He also killed two venomous snakes that we had found.

We had a great lunch that a sister in the hall made. She is an amazing cook!

Cook up with ketchup (sorry mom), Plantain, cucumber, and a strange cornbread thing some of us did not like.

There was so much encouragement and we were able to get so much done.

This was a large lizard that we found in the garden. It is so bright!

Even though it was hard work in intense heat the end result was a hall that honors Jehovah and new friendships to last a lifetime.

Welcome to Guyana

Almost two weeks! It may not seem like it's very long but so many things have happened that it almost feels like a lifetime. Of course,...
